Many are familiar with the old retail business mantra "location, location,
location", referring to the fact that the most important factor in selecting
commercially viable properties is, well, you guessed it. Here at
PocketLearn, we have a different mantra, "content, content, content".
Until today, if you wanted to view or study any educational content on a
handheld device such as a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or mobile phone, you
were limited to what few materials were available for the device you happened
to own. To make matters worse, products had different user interfaces,
requiring its users to each time learn a new way to control or navigate the
content.
PocketLearn has a better approach. By providing powerful, education
oriented viewers that run on many popular devices, it's no longer about the
hardware or platform. Free viewers for the most popular devices
are available for download from this web site for personal use.
PocketLearn is committed to the continued development (and improvement) of
these free viewers, especially as new devices and platforms become
available. And since our viewer software has made the platform and
hardware irrelevant in a sense, we are free to focus on content.
Additionally, all viewers are consistent in their user interface, so navigation
and control does not have to be relearned between devices or from one type of
content to another.
PocketLearn content is HTML based, so content creation leverages a familiar and
proven rendering technology with powerful image and text capabilities.
Add to that the ability to combine audio with that content, as well as a
testing facility, and you begin to see the potential.

The Vision
We don't think that content creation should be the exclusive domain
of big companies or publishing houses. Anyone should be able to create
educational content for whatever reason they desire. Allow us to list but
a few possible scenarios of how content can be created and used:
-
A student taking a very technical class creates content for his/her
personal use to get them through the course material. It can perhaps be shared
with a friend or members of a study group.
-
A high school teacher or college professor creates content for
their students, specific to a particular class and posts it on the PocketLearn
web site. The instructor gives the students instructions for obtaining
the material and may or may not charge a nominal fee for the content.
-
A student or instructor would like some content for a particular
subject matter. Instead of creating the content, he or she decides to
search the PocketLearn web site first. Surprisingly (or perhaps not), the
exact content desired has already been created and is made available at no
cost.
-
A publishing company, perhaps specialized in publishing educational
materials creates PocketLearn titles and submits "demo" versions to the
PocketLearn web site. This "demo" content allows a user to try the
product before buying it. When ready to purchase, the user buys the
"commercial" version of the product, either directly from the publisher or
through the PocketLearn web site.
-
A school for preparing individuals for a state licensing test (for
example, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, etc.) creates content to help
the individuals learn the material. This content is published and sold on
the web site, providing revenue to the school. The students can obtain
the content by browsing the PocketLearn web site on their computers, PDA's, or
mobile phones.
These are but a few of the ways that we envision the utilization of
PocketLearn products and services. We invite you to participate and
benefit from all we have to offer.
