Learn Something From Your Mobile Phone

Today’s mobile phones are really a marvel of modern technology. Packed into that little enclosure is a computer with more power and capacity than the personal computer of just a few years ago. But how are we utilizing all that power? Or, more accurately, why are we NOT utilizing it? The truth is, we don’t need that kind of processing power just to put up wallpapers, play music, hear fancy ring tones, surf the Internet, or even play games. Yet that’s the best “content” the mobile industry can give us. Are there better, less frivolous uses more worthy of that processing power?

The answer is: Yes! Modern “smart phones” can actually teach us a thing or two. In grade school we learned how to use “flashcards” to learn Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. That nifty stack of cards with a question on one side and the answer on the other remained useful well into high school, college, trade school, and continuing education. Now, a company called, PocketLearn (www.pocketlearn.com) has taken the basic flashcard concept, added images, audio, and some other cool features, and has made it available on our cell phones, for free. So, next time you’re waiting at the doctor’s office, sitting in a plane, or otherwise having “down” time, take out your cell phone and study for that next exam. Or just learn something useful.

The PocketLearn web site has a categorized repository of downloadable content. But because they are a new kid on the block, you may not yet find the exact content you want. But don’t worry, they have software tools to let you easily create and even upload new content. You can even profit as a PocketLearn publisher if you want. Their web site is mobile-friendly so you can start learning using only your Internet capable phone.

There is hardly a student today that doesn’t pack a mobile phone. And there are hardly any of us that aren’t “students” in some way. Even if we’re not full time students, our jobs usually require us to keep up with the latest trends and technologies of our profession. And the companies we work for require us to participate in their training programs. Thanks to PocketLearn, learning is now more convenient, ubiquitous, free, and best of all, mobile.
